The election of the chair was contested by 2 nominees hence a vote took place

The election of vice chair was not contested only 1 nominee was put forward. Should a vote have been taken for the vice chair.

Strictly speaking, yes. There is no obligation to have a vice chair, so the council could have decided not to appoint anyone.

Thank you for your reply. The council in question appoints a vice chair therefore an appointment had to be made.
I assumed that with one  1 nominee a vote was not required as no other person wished to take up the position. I was wrong in my assumption.
