At the February PC meeting this was bought to the table. The councillor was very aggresive and accussed me of acting like a school girl. A very heated discussion took place. I have just received the minutes as I was away for the march meeting. The chairman as put that a Councillor can bring any matter raised to them from a parishioner to a PC meeting. and if one Councillor has a different view to the person who bought it to the table they should not then be subject to an extreme negative response from another Councillor. (This was aimed at me) He suggested that the Councillor report back to the parishioner that raised the issue. (Its his very good friend) and for me to take the thoughts of some of the lunch club attendees away and decide what action to take. THIS TO ME SOUNDS as though the chair and the other councillors think they can interfer with the running of the community group.
The day after the meeting I was receiving e-mails from this Councillors friend who said they wanted to change and came up with some very strange alternatives which would have meant that many of the real elderly members (who are the main reason for starting the club) would not be able to attend.I did ask the members and the answer came back they did not want to change.
The Chairman also allows the Clerk (who is his wife to interject at times) and she is very friendly with the Councillors wife who bought this item to the table. Also this Councillor and his friend meet up one a week with the Chair and his wife for a drink. (Not that there is anything wrong with this in itself) The parishioners who were there at the meeting said to me after that it should never have been bought to the table, which I agree we have a WI and Church in the village which the PC award funding to but they would never have an item on the PC agenda. How do I stand in this situation and what would you advise of my course of action. being a new PC I know there are certain rules and regulations and I would like to get it right. Many thanks.
