Our Chairman is heavily involved in the Community and he also does a lot of work for the Parish Council especially hedgerow mainteneance and litter picking. We are due to appont a part time handyman for the village and after a selection process conducted by the Chairman and Vice Chair alone, the Chairman has recommended a candidate for the position.
However, one of the Councillors has found out that the candidate has not been honest on his application form and has omitted to include a recent employer. Someone has suggested that the Parish Council should contact this employer ( a neighbouring Parish Council) to get a reference even though the chap only worked for that council for 6 months.
The Chairman has made it known that if we don't all vote to employ this man, he will resign as he is fed up with doing the odd jobs in the village. No one wants to become Chairman but we are all concerned that all checks should be made before offering this man the job. It might be that this person will be good at the work but there is still the question as why a recent employer was left off the form.
What can we do?
