Is it legally necessary to update boilerplate Standing Orders for the use of online meetings

I would say it is not necessary as legislation trumps standing orders and the ability to hold online meetings until May 2021 has been passed in law.

Though I agree with MrsAbster I would actually suggest for the sake of clarity they should adopt some form of documentary clarification of what has been changed.
Our own Parish created a simple addendum that clearly states what has been amended or suspended, purely to avoid the potential argument of "I don't think it meant that" or the old chestnuts, "I don't think this means us" or "Oh I didn't see that".

Plus it makes it clear to the public as well!
