Has anyone on a council had any dealings with Extinction Rebellion? Our local group wants to have dialect with us to "support the Town Council in a positive decision" re declaring a climate emergency. I have agreed a one to one meeting with one of the group as she is a resident in my ward as she says that she would like to inform us of what they would like to achieve at a local level. She has also suggested the group may 'work together with the council'.
I personally do not have any sympathy with Extinction Rebellion. I am well aware of climate change, plastic pollution (active member of our local Ocean Guardians group), carbon emissions etc. and would welcome any practical ideas but have a great dislike of the ER tactics which involve disrupting the lives of ordinary citizens and damage to property.
My personal feelings are that the Town Council should not show any sort of alliance with the group. Very interested in hearing from anyone with experience of the group.
Many thanks
