Parish Councils now have the ability to make payment by bank transfer but they have to have in place a system where a minimum of 2 councillors approve the payment to equate to the 2 signatures required on cheques.  Unity Bank is a popular choice as this has been set up with parish council legislation in mind.

Thank you MrsAbster I will investigate Unity Bank which is a new to me.
I believe Unity charge £6 a month for a current account.  Lloyds Bank has a two to sign account available FOC if your turnover is under £50k.
