A council is advertising a Proper Officer / RFO post following resignation of the Clerk at short notice. There is likely to be an extraordinary meeting (planning application) and an ordinary meeting required in the interim before an appointment can be made.

Can the Council lawfully hold meetings in the absence of a Clerk?

Thank you.

Have a search here for "How to proceed with no clerk?" where this is answered.

In practice we hired a locum clerk after our long standing clerk died. This was ratified at the first meeting. Your local ALC will have a list of locum clerks or a neighbouring PC might lend their clerk in the interim.

A parish councillor may also act as clerk (unpaid).
