Our Parish Council have made a number of very questionable decisions lately, and a few residents including myself are challenging them. There are a few seats available on the Parish Council, and I have put myself forward for co-option in order to try to bring a 'voice of reason' to the table. However can I be legally co-opted if I am in a formal dispute with them? Legal preceedings have not yet begun , although solicitors are involved.

We had a case recently where an ex-Councillor (who is in a Judicial Review situation with the Council) stood as a by-election candidate. It was acceptable to the Returning  Officer.
