Please help. I am a parish councillor, six months ago I did not attend the full council meeting but apologised in advance and that apology was accepted. My reason was that I would be overseas for work. Two weeks ago I missed a full meeting with no excuse or advance apology as I plainly forgot. I rang immediately I realised the next morning to apologies to the Chairman. Between these full meetings I have discharged my duties and attended meetings about the website, acquiring a defibrillator etc.
The chairman and clerk believe that technically my absence leads to disqualification through their interpretation of the law and have sought special consent for me to continue from the other councillors. I understand the law differently and do not think this action was necessary as I have been discharging my duties and apologised for absence for the first meeting so don’t feel the Six months has elapsed.
can anyone clarify the law and what ‘Any meeting’ actually means and the relevance of my apology and discharging my duties.
Grateful for any help on this.
