All of a sudden we find that there is a "Standards Committee" at our local county council.

We thought this was abolished years ago as a quango.

Can someone explain what this is please?

Thank you

The committee still exists, it was the standards board that was abolished.

Thank you. Got it. But this committee does deal with breaches of the Code of Conduct as well which have been reported to hte monitoring officer; is this correct
They do, yes, it is less bureaucratic that the old standards board and should reach resolutions quicker, their maximum power, I believe, is censure.
Censure; sounds fairly pointless to me especially if you have some egotistic, bigoted bully who really doesn't care either way.
