I am a Parish Councillor (and have been for many years) for a small rural Parish in the South West of Durham.  I have recently been made redundant from my 'day job', and have today seen an advert for a paid Parish Clerk of another Parish (20 miles away) - but am unsure of the legality of my being able to apply for that post - given I am already a Parish Councillor.  I know this would be complicated if I were applying to be a paid Clerk for my own Parish, but this is a different Parish?  Any advice gratefully accepted.  Many Thanks.

Yes, you can. It is not uncommon. Naturally, you would declare this on your Register of Interests and if matters affecting the council you worked for were discussed you would have an interest to declare.
