If an individual or councillor made a monetary gift to a council for a specified item such as regalia would this be subject to tax or tax free for the individual?

I'm not an expert on personal taxation, but local councils are not charities, so the exemption that exists for charitable donations is unlikely to extend to donations to local councils and I've never heard of an equivalent exemption for gifts to local councils.

Thank you for giving this question consideration and providing an answer. I thought the same, charitable donations and political donations are exempt but there is no mention of councils or local councils.
There is no blanket exemption for political donations. I believe that there are circumstances under which such donations may be exempt from inheritance tax, but one would need to die in order to benefit, so I advocate a thorough examination of the pros and cons before pursuing this!
