Thanks DtC, not sure if I should spend my 67p per hour increase on a new sports car or exotic cruise...

If you work full time that would be nearly £1,400 a year extra. Enough for a cruise. Never look a gift horse in the mouth.
Just think of all that backpay. Eight whole months in a single lump sum. It's like winning the lottery. I've asked Securicor to accompany me to the bank as a precaution!
AR - even for a full-timer it's under £1k after tax and NI and the vast majority of clerks work only a few hours per week. From my three councils together I'll get an extra £13.76 per week before tax and NI, or just under a tenner in my pocket.
Even your £13.76 will be enough (after tax and NI) for a weeks all inclusive in somewhere like Spain, Greece or Turkey. Not bad for not having to do anything more than you already are.

If clerks wish to work part-time that is ok, it's their choice, but you can't then complain that you can't afford a luxury cruise or a new car just off your clerking pay.
You're right. I'm going to treat myself to a holiday. I'll have to hold onto the first £150 of my pay rise to cover the increase in my electricity bills thanks to the new OFGEM cap. The next £90 will be enough to buy a passport, as I haven't been abroad for 24 years. Another £90 should cover the car parking at the airport. There must be an all-inclusive week somewhere for around £180 surely.
If not been abroad for 24 years why start now? That's now £360 which should get you a weeks caravan holiday in the UK. So many people look for the negatives rather the positives. It's free money stop worrying about the theoretical problems of spending it and just enjoy it.
