My husband has been Chair of a Parish Council for many years, since before emails came about. Unfortunately with modern times councillors want to send increasing numbers of emails!  My husband writes rather abrupt emails at times, so it's come about that I help him write them diplomatically. Is there any reason why this should be a problem?

It sounds as though your involvement might be important at times, but strictly speaking, you should not have access to any of his official correspondence. Has somebody raised this as an issue? If not, I'd be tempted to keep quiet and carry on. The potential harm from somebody misinterpreting his words could be greater than the harm from you reading something you should not.

I agree with DtC.  I would say a useful final step before you hit the send button is for your husband to read your draft and say “yes, I’m happy with that”.  It’s then, for all intents and purpises, HIS email.
