What can an individual councillor do if the clerk advises wrongly.

Repeated incorrect advice even in the face variously of legislation/standing orders etc.

Ensure that evidence of such failures should be reported to your employment committee for them to investigate and take whatever action they decide( providing they have devolved powers to do so) otherwise it is a matter for the council to act.

Thank you. I don't suppose that the problem is unique.Can't think that this woud work as the problem is that  the proper officer seems to be doing the bidding of the majority group regardless of the law and regulation.

The clerk of course has to do the bidding of a majority council decision as they are the employee of the council. That is why a properly constituted and knowledge based committee is required to handle employee matters.

If the Parish Councillors are weak as many unfortunately are then nothing happens it’s just a fact of life
The answer to this as to many Parish Council problems is to get competent committed Councillors elected but that is easier said than done
