If you don't think that the individual is suitable for the role of parish councillor, perhaps you should consider voting against the nomination, rather than abstaining. "Known trust issues with their character" might not prevent them from being a good parish councillor. Nobody's perfect.

Depends what the trust issues are. If it's your personal feeling, then vbote against. If it's a public matter, like a bank job, everyone will kno9w ab out it anyway, so you do you, and let everyong vote how they see fit. You're only responsible for your vote.
