Our small Parish does not have a Parish Council. It has been unable to elect a Chair for the past year and meetings have been called by 6 Elector with one acting as Chair. The Clerk has now stated his intention to resign at the next meeting. Is it possible for a Parish Meeting to function and meet legal requirement, without a Clerk? For example if a volunteer was appointed to be the Financial Officer.

There is no requirement for a Parish Meeting to have a Clerk. As long as minutes are taken and made available for signature either at the end of the meeting or at the next meeting, it doesn't matter who takes them.

Thankyou Dave. To be clear, does this apply where the Parish Meeting takes on the role of a parish council, with statutory powers and normally elects a Chairman and Clerk to act on the meeting's behalf. Perhaps turn the question round to ask what is the minimum we must do as a Parish to meet legal requirements?
