do councillors have to resign if they have not attended 6 online meetings

6 Month Rule leads to automatic disqualification although should any apologies be accepted the clock re-starts back to 0.

The councillor is automatically disqualified after 6 months unless on each occasion they failed to attend, they provided a valid reason and it was accepted at that meeting.  Apologies can not be retrospective.

We managed to rid our council of a rather rum one using this, but then they knew exactly what they were doing

I wish advice from local associations was consistant ~ the answers received to this question was my interpretation yet another Parish Council took advise resulting in dismissal of a Councillor who had been unwell and sent apologies for each meeting for a period of six months  but was told that that before being unwell he should have known !!! and asked for 'leave of absence' to be approved by Council.! I believe this was an excuse and not a reason as it hid bad administration ~ but what can you do
