Paragraph 41 (1) of Schedule 12 of the LGA 1972 states:-

"Minutes of the proceedings of a meeting of a local authority shall, subject to sub-paragraph (2) below, be drawn up and entered in a book kept for that purpose and shall be signed at the same or next meeting of the authority by the person presiding thereat..."

You Must hold paper (signed) copies for ever. I have minutes going back to the 1960s - I have been scanning them in to a database but the paper copies must be kept and can then be lodged with your local records office for safekeeping ( keeps them out of my shed)

I have December 4th 1894, the very first meeting of one of my councils, recorded in a leather bound volume in immaculate copperplate script.
